Labourer Resume Example Australia (2026 Template)

One-page labourer resume example on a clipboard next to a white card and safety glasses

A strong labourer resume example for Australia fits on one or two pages and leads with what hirers check first: your tickets and licences, a three-line summary, recent site experience with specific tasks and numbers, then practical skills and references. Below is a full example you can adapt, plus summary lines, a skills list and how to list your tickets.

Labouring hirers read fast and often on a phone, so a clear, plain layout beats a fancy design. Yakka Labour is the hiring marketplace, not the workwear brand with a similar name.

What should a labourer resume include?

  1. Name, suburb, phone and email at the top. Suburb matters because hirers want to know you can reach the site.
  2. Tickets and licences near the top, not buried at the end.
  3. A short summary of two to three lines.
  4. Work experience in reverse order, with the sites, tasks and tools used.
  5. Skills as a scannable list.
  6. Availability and transport.
  7. References or "available on request".

Labourer resume summary examples

Pick the one closest to your situation and make it specific:

  • Experienced: "Construction labourer with five years on commercial sites in Melbourne's CBD and south-east. White card, working at heights and EWP Yellow Card. Known for reliability and keeping crews moving on tight pour schedules."
  • No site experience yet: "Fit, reliable worker with two years in warehouse and farm work, now moving into construction. White card holder with own boots, PPE and car, available for early starts across Brisbane's north."
  • Civil: "Civil labourer with experience on drainage, kerb and footpath works around Perth. White card, traffic control accreditation and confined space training, comfortable working in pits and trenches with shoring."

Labourer resume template if you have no site experience

If you've never worked on a construction site, use the same layout but change what goes in each section:

  • Tickets first: get your white card before you apply. It's a one-day course and the single biggest thing that gets a beginner hired. A first aid certificate or forklift licence helps too.
  • Relevant experience instead of site experience: warehouse, farm, removals, landscaping, hospitality kitchens, cleaning or sport all show you can handle physical work, early starts and a team.
  • Transferable skills: lifting and stacking, using hand tools, following instructions, working outdoors in all weather.
  • Availability: state clearly that you can start early, work Saturdays if true, and have transport.
  • References: a former manager, coach or teacher who can vouch for your reliability.

For example: "Farm hand, cattle and hay property, Gunnedah NSW, 2025: fencing, loading hay, operating a quad bike and chainsaw under supervision, 5 am starts in summer." That one line tells a builder more than a paragraph of adjectives. Our guide to construction jobs with no experience covers where beginners usually start.

How to list tickets and licences on a resume

Write each ticket the way a hirer searches for it: plain name first, then the official name or unit code, issuing body and expiry if it has one. For example, "Forklift licence (LF), SafeWork NSW, expires March 2029" or "White card (CPCWHS1001)". Unit codes help resumes pass applicant tracking systems that filter on exact terms. Some codes changed in September 2026, such as RIIWHS204E to RIIWHS204 for working at heights, so list both if you hold the older one. You can confirm current codes on training.gov.au. Keep licence numbers off the public version and give them when asked.

Construction labourer resume tips that get you shortlisted

  • Use numbers: houses, pours, orders per shift, years without a safety incident.
  • Name the suburbs and site types: "residential builds in Box Hill" says more than "construction sites".
  • Match the job ad: if it asks for "civil labourer, pipe laying", use those words where they're true.
  • Keep the layout simple: one column, standard headings, saved as PDF or Word. Fancy templates often break in recruitment software. See how to create an ATS-friendly resume and our free resume templates.
  • Cut the filler: no "hard-working team player" without proof, and no full primary school history.
  • Check spelling and phone number: a wrong digit costs you the job.

Using your resume on Yakka

On Yakka your worker profile does most of the resume's job: skills, tickets, suburb and photo, visible to hirers who post jobs nearby. Copy your summary and tickets list straight into the profile, keep expiry dates current, and attach or share your resume when a hirer asks for more detail. Hirers post jobs with the suburb, start time, tickets required and an AUD rate, and message workers directly. Yakka is a marketplace, not an employer.

Frequently asked questions

Should I put a photo on my labourer resume?

It is not expected in Australia and most employers prefer resumes without photos, because hiring decisions should be based on skills and experience. Leave it off the resume itself. On job platforms and the Yakka app a clear profile photo in work gear is normal and helps hirers recognise you when you arrive on site.

How long should a labourer resume be?

One page is ideal for most labourers, and two pages is the limit even with many years of experience. Put tickets, a short summary and the last three or four jobs first. Older or unrelated jobs can be shortened to one line each, or grouped under a heading such as earlier experience, with the years shown.

Should I list my white card number on my resume?

Mention that you hold a white card and the state that issued it, but keep the card number for when a hirer asks, usually at induction or onboarding. Resumes get forwarded and stored in many places, so it is sensible to keep licence and card numbers, your date of birth and your home address off the version you send out widely.

Do I need a cover letter for labouring jobs?

Usually not. Most labouring hirers decide from your tickets, availability and a quick call. If you apply through a builder or labour hire company website that asks for one, write three or four sentences covering the role, your tickets, your availability and transport, and one specific example of relevant work you have done.

What if I have gaps in my work history?

Labouring is often casual and project-based, so gaps are common and rarely a problem. Show the years for each job rather than exact months, group short casual jobs together, and be ready to explain a gap briefly, for example travel, study, injury recovery or caring for family. Focus on what you can offer from your next start date.
